I've been asked to make 6 cushions for a client.. all with natural colours but with a plaid, so a little more complicated that it first suggests. He and I went through some pattern suggestions and then landed on a pattern of the natural ecru of my Ryeland wool with the brown/grey of my coloured Ryeland wool. But he also wanted a nice of colour grade from darker to lighter brown so another couple of colours had to be introduced to gain the correct effect... I like to wind the colours onto card to gain an idea of how they will look, but this time wound the same colours in the opposite direction... I find it saves hours on weaving a sample......... it doesn't give the exact weave, but does give you a really good idea of how the colours look together.
As I'm using my finest yarn, the number of ends will be huge, There are 9 changes of stripe with 100 ends in each one, totaling 900 ends. I'm going to use a 12 dent reed with 2 ends passing through each...... and I'm going to weave a simple twill so any harsh colour changes will blend together in a much softer gradiation. As I also want to make more than the requested number of cushions, I'm winding a 10 meter warp........ it's going to take ages.... But very satisfying..........

Doogie came up to me at the gate on Monday to show me that he had a limp... he held up his leg for us to check it, without running away or being nervous Nigel put his head into a bucket of nuts while I lifted his leg like a little horse.. Nothing serious... I think it may be a sprain, as it was a little warm, and he had been leaping around like a lamb, with a little scald starting so I sprayed it with foot spray and yesterday gave him a little injection to help it... he looked into my eyes as I knelt down, and knew I was helping him... I rubbed his cheek and told him what a good boy he was... and he just lowered his nose into my lap and closed his eyes as I stroked the palm of my hand past his long lashes... I'll check him again this afternoon...... He is sooooo lovely!
