I went back to feed them their tea at about 6.00 last night... Dixie and Lupin were trying to merge with Melody's gang... and the other 4 were on the far side of the field... they all came charging from different directions towards the 2 troughs which are positioned end to end so that I can place their nuts evenly for all to share...
The only lamb who has never been interest in nuts is Curley Hamster.. she has always come to me for a sneaky bottle, but since being weaned has rushed over for a cuddle and a lean on my leg, loving the closeness that she has experienced with me since the day she was born, being one of triplets who needed topping up.... However, I offered her a few nuts in the bottom of the bucket on day 1 and she has taken to it like a duck to water... much to Melody's annoyance and Jonty's bewilderment... he stood next to me looking up, asking why she got all the attention, so I gave him a love and he went back to the trough without further question.. they are beautifully behaved...
I always have a handful of nuts for Tottie, after she finished a meal.. its a little tradition... Last night I sat a little way from the flock, and waited... my gang were first to finish and all came to me for our evening checks and chat... the only difference was that everyone came with them... if Melody, Megan, Jonty and Tottie could have climbed into my skin with me, they would have.. getting closer that all the others... Tottie had her nuts and was content and Jonty had a big cuddle...
When the two hamsters came to join in, Melody deliberately put herself between me and them, and gave them a filthy look... Mist and Sky aren't so friendly so they walked away... and when Dixie and Lupin tried to join us and well.. it was Millie that defended... shoving them away with a bit of a butt... Megan sat down as close as she could get.. Melody followed, and after lots of stroking the tiny tots joined their mum.. Lottie then came up behind and started pawing me for attention... so I had 10 mins of settlement while they all chewed their cud... with the others baarring from a few yards away... I got up and went round to all them all and they were fine until Melody couldn't stand it any more and used her whole body to broadside them gently away.. she is so gentle about it, she won't butt.. its very nice..
Dixie and Lupin had a proper love while she wasn't paying attention too.. and this morning they are more friendly with each other.. with Melody happy to stand close to me, assessing the amount of affection that was being dished out... As long as she gets more than her fair share it seem to be ok!!
