On Sunday it was Nigel's birthday, and a small group of us had planned to go over to The Street Head Inn for their Sunday carvery.... it's just up the road from the barn and highly recommended by the way!... however, I had time to bob down and check the sheep, which should have given me time to get changed and have an uninterrupted lunch... yer right!
Do you remember the hamster family from 2013? Curley and Dottie were 2 of the triplets that we kept, Curley had taken a bottle without being picked up, within 2 hour of being born, a first for me and to date has never been topped!
The two have continued to be adorable, and this is their first time for lambing, and they have been growing so fat that they were both fit to burst.... it was a relief when I found Curley in labor...... helping deliver her first lamb as it was quite big and she was taking too long... she loved it... cleaning it dry until it started to chase her round... Nigel and one of our friends turned up as I'd taken so long... it was past the time that we had booked the table for lunch, so I told them to start without me... I made sure that Curley had water and put a gate over the back doors of the barn to keep the others out.... there was not sign of her having another so I went home, changed, and went back to check... then happily went to meet everyone for lunch...
We all returned a couple of hour later to find Curley with a second lamb, and ready at the gate to be put into the nursery wing!....
Later, at about 9.00, she was a little frustrated with the first lamb... I hope she doesn't reject it, but if I stand with her in the pen she lets them both feed calmly... so I think she's just taking her time to accept motherhood!
Then............ at 7.30 on Sunday evening Dottie started!
