Next we moved most of them onto new pasture.. takes ages as we only have a small trailer, but the sheep are all so happy when they have a new view and some new sweet fresh grass to graze.
These two boys, Dudley and Vincent were moved into a new field with Sunshine and Billy. They have become inseparable since their introduction nearly a year ago... I don't know if its because they are brothers, with Dudley being a year older or just because they like each other, but they can be seen grazing together all day every day.
They have devised a new game recently when I go to see them and it makes me howl with laughter.. and they know it...
I have to sit on the grass while they have a few nuts and then they come over together... one on either side so I can put my arms round each of them... then I start to talk to them, fussing and stroking their ears and tickling them on their faces, telling them how beautiful they are... they get closer and closer until I'm squeezed between the two... then they start to play the game... rubbing their heads up and down and reversing into me then broadsiding me from each side until I can't stand it any more.... I have no idea why it was started or what they think they are doing, but I do understand it must be some form of affection, or why would they bother? There is no aggression shown whatsoever, they seem to just like being close.... ............ and oddly they never do it with Nigel, he has his own set of behaviour with them?
We also moved the teenagers to fresh grazing... Peewee and her gang... with Jonty and Tottie..... they are in a new field that we have acquired to rent, 10 acres in total... and are now together with many of the ewes and lambs. Jonty was the last to be loaded and last to come out.... he didn't rush out with the others, rather choosing to stand in the trailer and survey the situation... had a chat with me, then came out at his own pace.... He is very thoughtful, and very nice with the lambs.. he let them hang of his ears while I talked to him the other day... and he always looks after his sister, Tottie!
