Certain small beasties have been more inquisitive than they should and have frightened themselves!
I went to the barn at around 4.30 a.m. a little earlier than of late but we had done an earlier last feed as we wanted an early night.. Nigel had an early start in the morning.......
We have got into the habit of giving Daisy half her bottle, and putting her down in the barn while giving the other 3 theirs. it gets one small bundling body out of the way and makes life easier.... Then we give her the rest with a cuddle to follow.. only thing was that when I turned round she had gone!
.......... and when I mean gone, she was no where to be seen....... I searched the barn... there wasn't a sign, then I noticed that the main barn gate was ajar... oh.. my fault I hadn't clicked it..... it was still pitch black outside, so I called her... "Daisy May... Daisy May"....... out of the gloom, from around the side of the barn, came a very small lamb... quiet as a mouse, she didn't make a sound, but bolted at speed towards my voice....... she lept into my arms and made herself as small as she could, burying her nose in the crook of my elbow... she had frightened herself......... another lesson learned.....
Next day all 4 went out into their field pen, which I had moved onto fresh grass, and left them, returning at lunch time to give them their bottles. At 5.00 when we went to feed the flock and to give them their tea... but they were missing....... they had undone a string and had squeezed out of the gap..... I looked round the field, its 3 acres...... but bless them...
There they were in a heap, sunning themselves in the warmth evening sunshine, not 5 feet from the pen.......... they heard my voice and came rushing to the gate. I didn't pick them up, just let them out into the yard, one by one, where they followed like a row of ducklings back inside for their milk!! They are ready for their next adventure..........
