Then there are the people we know and love who pop in for a chat and catch up on where we are in our lives, the great things that have happened and what has turned up to help us when we need it......... and then there are the surprises.........
Yesterdays was David and Maureen Cole.......... David makes wonderful items from intricate turned wood... you can see them in his section on the web site........ and Maureen knits for Swaledale Wool... they had made their way in the sunshine over the tops to drop off some newly made jumpers, stop off at the Creamery at Hawes for lunch and then popped in to see me on the way round to go home...... they are so lovely, they had brought me a beautiful basket hamper of all the treats that you would normally give to someone else...... Cake, pudding, Clotted cream, preserves and jam (oh I feel some home made fruit scones in the offing) and my favorite "Turkish Delight" (how did they know?) all tied up in cellophane with a red bow on top.......... oh I'm going to get so indulgently fat over Christmas!! I can't thank them enough, it made my day! xxx
So with my new sparks of Christmas spirit, I decorated the tree, tidied up and have a new spring in my step.... Getting a little done every day gets you on top of everything and gives a sense of achievement........
With the weather forecast so bad this morning we have put Melody's gang inside the barn for the day again..... they know what to do and came rushing in.... their breakfast was early as I have sold my car........
oh I sold my car as we seemed to have 2 sitting outside the cottage most of the time which is ridiculous... we have kept Nigel's as it pulls the trailer...... so.... as he needed it today we have to plan a little more so we both went out really early to feed all the sheep before he went off to work with it...
Its the first time since I was 17 that I haven't had a car of my own... it feels a bit odd actually....... a small loss of independence perhaps.... but worthwhile if you look at it from a financial and environmental angle.... I thought I'd really miss it, but it hasn't been too bad........ the positive angle is that I cleared out Nigel's as we needed to be clean when we went to the wedding the other weekend, so it got the hoovering of its life and a sponge down on the outside probably for the second time ever (I also did the first)...... I think it sighed with relief, not to put too fine a point on it.... but you could have grown vegetables in the drivers side.... and now it has the possibility of remaining tidy as I can't stand the chaos!!!!!
........ and to all those who find Christmas hard at this time of year... do something nice for yourself today... a little treat... something small... it'll ease you closer and afterall...... its just another day.... eat, drink, sleep, and smile.. it's ok. xxx
