Amy our vet really did do a wonderful job on Douglas last week... She had wrapped his foot in a poultice, like a little horse, to remove all the infection from his abscess, and it really did work a treat..... I can't describe the smell, other than to say that it made my stomach turn when I took it off.... but he had put his head in a bucket of nuts and had let me remove the bandage without moving....... bless him... and had also let me spray it with foot rot spray.... on Sunday he was putting all his weight on his foot and after checking in with Amy at the surgery when I passed on Monday afternoon, we let him back out into the field, with Peewee, first thing this morning...... they were both really excited to be going back up to the field. Pee's did look back for a moment to see where I was, but after seeing that I was coming, followed Nigel up the side of the road, he had the nuts in a bucket, and the two joyfully pranced into the field. They were so happy to be back outside with their mates.....
We will keep and eye on Douglas, but all seems to be just fine and he's back to his normal bright self!............. except for one addition to his character........... Peewee has taught him to use his voice... She and the other Poll Dorset girls, who are in "home" field ready to lamb (27th not 17th Nov!!) are all very vocal, with Peewee always demanding something from us.. using several types of "Ba" to indicate what she wants... Being shut in the barn for a few days together, this trait has rubbed off...... now that he has his confidence back, Douglas is very loud and has a very deep voice.....
