The Redmire gang had a new pen set up a week ago, so I've been feeding the mums in it every evening, and all except wicked Tuesday have been trooping in perfectly... Tuesday is dreadful, she has a rather small head so can squeeze it into the creep feeder with the lambs.... trouble is she can also get stuck... she never learns! They were first to clip!
The hogs and the Dorset lambs have been sent to the top of North Walden for the summer, to graze on herbage, and to grow into big sheep! The hogs were clipped with the Dorset mums at the end of May.
So it was Peewee's gang and the rest of the main flock on the hillside field that were to be done with Jonty and Max, so we had to shuffle everyone round a bit so they didn't mix together and then I left everyone to it and went to join friends Rebecca and Max at the open garden event in Carperby.... very nice afternoon away from all the hassle with afternoon tea to boot!!!
I returned much later to help, and it was fortunate that we got the remaining lot inside before a storm hit... not ideal for newly sheared sheep, but at least they were all dry and the wool sorted under cover before they went out again, and it wasn't cold, just very very wet... all the tame lambs gathered round us as we worked... they don't understand about fear, so they come to see what we're doing!! .........
So Job Done!.... then Peewee and Lupin with their lambs, and Dixie and Tottie were brought back to West Burton, with Lilly in the front of the Pick-up with Nigel.... so that we just have to walk round the corner to feed Lilly and she can integrate with sheep and lambs that she knows from their overnight stays in the barn! She's a bit bewildered, but she'll be fine in a few days. She understands that the trailer is like a pen and that she can snuggle down in it as usual.
Today we have had a proper day off, it was my birthday, and as a treat Nigel and I went up to Co. Durham to the Beamish Museum.......... if you haven't been, I can recommend it...... a brilliant day out!! .... and Granny Pat was on Lilly duty..... thanks Pat! x
......... and I'd like to thank everyone who has been in touch with greetings on facebook and cards in the post, for all their lovely messages and kind wishes, I really appreciate it...... makes a creaking woman feel very happy! xxx
