Just before opening time a couple came to the house to see if I'd show them into the shop... the sign on the door works!! So I opened up and we started chatting... as it turned out Mel and his wife have just moved back into the area after a long absence, living all over the UK and now seem to be settled back in Yorkshire... Mel is a craftsman in his spare time and began telling me about the sticks and riding crops that he makes... using leather to make the whip end....... I asked him if he used coloured leather....... Yes his answered.. !
Now my mind had shifted to my wardrobe upstairs......... hang on it may sound a bit random but bare with me........ there is method in my madness!
Some 10 years ago, in a fit of stupidity, I had made a rather rash purchase... in Edinburgh... the first time Nigel and I had been away for the weekend.. a blood red leather skirt.... What was I thinking... I'd only worn it twice and had felt a bit old for it then.... 10 years later the mind boggles... so recycling was what had occurred to me!..
I produced the skirt, much to their surprise... but as they felt the lovely unblemished soft leather they understood what I meant! "Please take it and turn it into something useful" I said... better you have it than it sit in my wardrobe for another decade...... They left with smiles on their faces....
"I'll make you something" said Mel......... I'm waiting with baited breath!
