Elaine can usually be found farming in West Burton with her husband... or working in her business on the village green... Smithy Antiques and Collectables has been featured on The Antiques Road Trip in the last two series... so you might have met her already..... but wondered where the shop was located...... If you visit you'll catch her quietly knitting in the back of the smithy (and in winter warm yourselves next to her little Pot Shaped Wood burner)....... and when she's done you can buy what she makes in Fabric of the Field......... or on her new on line shop on this web site... click Home Accessories & Textiles and look for Elaine Dobbing.....

Visitors with a mission... after my own heart... Helping young entrepreneurs of the future...3/8/2013 Today we have had a return customer... a lovely family from Hull... they have been here for a few days and came into the shop earlier this week... They love what we do here and wanted some prints of West Burton's Cauldron Falls, which were sent hot foot from Richmond by Tread Artist Sandra Mark, as we'd sold all her stock.. Anyway in conversation it turned out that the gentleman was in education and was passionate about introducing youngsters to business from a young age... Something that I have been talking about for years, especially when we had schools visiting my previous business in Leyburn... He asked if he could mention Fabric of the Field and its philosophy to his school classes and use it as an example when teaching......... well we took that one a step further as I love this sort of thing....... I've said that if any of his kids want to email me with questions, then I'll be very glad to answer anything I can to set them on the road to being little entrepreneurs! Can't wait to hear from them! Yesterday we restocked the shop after an incredible July with lots more goodies... I had a visit from @From the Heart Crafts and from Norgarth Designs.......... I've spent all afternoon photographing and updating the site so you can browse till your hearts delight... Lots of lovely Home accessories and fabric creations..... and Also
At last I can get back to normal... its been a mammoth end of month with all the visitors that we have had to the shop during July..... thank you so much to the Dales program........ West Burton has been put back on the map.... people who have never been before have finally discovered the village and love it! With the rain that was so desperately needed, the grass is growing again and all our animals are benefiting from the new sweet growth that comes through.. so they are all happy too........ Our Caravan project is coming along too.......... on From the Heart Crafts' facebook page they have lots of pictures...... I have shared a photo on my pages that has been advertising the Festival of Thrift.... you can find more information about this event on their web site www.festivalofthrift.co.uk ......... its being held at the end of September in Darlington......... take a look! We are hoping to make it the first outing for our "Little ArtiVan" and get involved with it......... all very exciting! |
